ARTICLES

· Italian writer Oriana Fallaci's "Rage and Pride". The poignant description of her emotions while she was assisting the tragedy from her Manhattan apartment and the controversial anti-islamic reaction to it proved a punch in the stomach for the establishment in Italy.

· Andrew Sullivan's "This is what a day means" appeared on the NY Times Sunday Magazine. It acutely unfolds the tangle of emotions that took us over to reveal what changed and what has not changed on that day.

WTC MEMORIAL

· “This memorial is accessible to everyone. It takes up no buildable land. It references the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, as well as Castle Clinton, important symbols of our history and values. It points to Staten Island, to New Jersey, and to the rest of the world (recognizing the national and international dimensions of the September 11 disaster). It recreates the architecture of the World Trade Center full-size, but in a way that it can be experienced without climbing. Thus it allows visitors to experience the immensity of the lost towers, and to hear the stories of the people who worked and died there, easily but not comfortably.”

We the undersigned citizens, request that the City of New York refrain from erecting any commercial building(s) on the 'sacred' ground which is currently referred to as "Ground Zero". We ask that this sight be considered for a memorial. Included in this petition are a few ideas.”

· “HERE IS NEW YORK is not a conventional gallery show. It is something new, a show tailored to the nature of the event, and to the response it has elicited. The exhibition is subtitled "A Democracy of Photographs" because anyone and everyone who has taken pictures relating to the tragedy is invited to bring or ftp their images to the gallery, where they will be digitally scanned, archivally printed and displayed on the walls alongside the work of top photojournalists and other professional photographers. All of the prints which HERE IS NEW YORK displays will be sold to the public for $25, regardless of their provenance. The net proceeds will go to the Children's Aid Society WTC Relief Fund, for the benefit of the thousands of children who are among the greatest victims of this catastrophe.”

SPEAKING OUT

· Check out past and recent postings on a forum page for an independent UK news organization. For instance, this link will bring up postings regarding the Palestinians allegedly celebrating in the streets. The forum is somewhat cynical.
