La sua anima gemeva, || Her soul cried out,
esacerbata e dolente, || exacerbated and in agony,
trafitta da una spada. || cut by a spade.

Oh quanto era triste || Oh how she was sad
ed afflitta || and aflicted
quella donna benedetta, || that blessed woman,
Madre del Figlio Unigenito! || Moth er of His only Son.

Ella si rattristava e soffriva, || She was so sad and suffering,
e tremava vedendo i tormenti || and she trembled to see the torment

Quale uomo non piangerebbe || What man would not cry

e possa piangere con te. || and that I may cry with you.

Fa che il mio cuore arda || Make it so that my heart may ardor
nell' amore di cristo || in the love of Christ

Santa Madre, esaudisicmi: || Holy Mother, extol to me:

Fa che la Croce mi protegga, || Make it that the cross protects me,
che la morte di Cristo mi salvi, || That the death of Christ saves me,

Quando il mio corpo morirà, || When my body shall die,
