This girl comes from Michigan, has homes in Rome and New York, but she REALLY lives where her suitcases are. She likes to jokingly say she "yells" for a living, which means she sings Opera and Symphonic repertoire, loves the work, the life, the colleagues, and the travel. Well, maybe the packing for the travel she doesn't love so much, but somehow it's all worth it.

When she's home, she works in her garden, reads, sees movies, catches up with friends, sews, learns repertoire, and rescues the abandoned cats who wander in, and with whom she feels a great rapport. She insists they are extremely communicative, emotionally and spiritially connected, speak at least three languages (English, Italian, and Cat of course), and best of all, surround her with unconditional love. Since the feeling is mutual they have gotten to be awfully good friends; she says emphatically this is a real win-win situation, and wishes more people who live where animals are left to roam the streets could know the joy that could be theirs for so small a price. She helps her younger colleagues too, those starting out in the business. From 1995-1999 she volunteered her summers to the New OperaFestival di Roma, giving Master Classes and teaching voice, and this year heartened by the experience and positive feed-back, is working with other like-minded colleauges to establish CMI Arts (which you can link to below), as one of the founding Mentors for its Young Artist/Mentor Program, whose goal it is to help talented young singers whip themselves up to professional snuff, and get their acts on the road too.

One could say all these projects are keeping her out of mischief.....She's writing a couple of books in the bits of time she has free: one for CMI Arts, and one for children, whose proceeds will go to help the abandoned cats of Rome. Later this year she will make a couple of new CD's: one of cantatas of Vivaldi with the chamber orchestra Concentus Musicus Italiae, and the other of French song literature with pianist Sabrina Trojse.
