PREAMBLE
During your Internet connection, our PC could
be attacked/violated from anyone; there are different protection programs,
someone for free and some one else not, who let you to control (permitting or
deny the access) what can communicate from/to your PC, and to control all those
communication attempts that some program try to do. The most common Privacy
applications are called Firewall, but, anyway, they don’t keep our PC 100%
safe. There is an easy explanation: if we permit to Internet Explorer (i.e.) to
communicate (otherwise you’ll not surf), the Firerwall
will open a communication port from/to your PC to let Explorer to works
correctly. As soon as that port is open, it is no more checked by Firewall, due
our permission when the application starts; so, from that port can also pass
through the others, not just Explorer (the door is open!)
The purpose of this preamble is to introduce
you to others kind of programs (free), they are not called Firewall but they
work with it in a perfect conjunction. This programs,
infact, take the control of all those ports the Firewall leave open (due to
your permission, of course). They work based on a Blacklist (in the memory
program), so, everyone will be mentioned on that list, he’ll can not be able to
get access to your PC
And now, ladies
and gentlemen, I’m happy to expose the two wonderful programs:
PROTOWALL
This
application is the brain. It is very easy to use also because you must set your
preferences (in File menu) just the first time you run it, then you can forget
it. You can also set it to start with your operative system; it doesn’t need
particulars hardware resources, it normally use 2-5% of your processor and 3,5
Mb of RAM only.
I SUGGEST TO READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, YOU CAN FIND THAT HELP/INFO
FILE HERE, BECAUSE A DRIVER MUST BE INSTALLED TO YOUR NETWORK CONNECTION (EASY TO
DO, FAST AND DON’T NEED TO REBOOT YOUR PC)

BLOCKLIST MANAGER
This one is the heart. This
application let you to download the blacklist from many sources and convert all
of them in one file that will be exported automatically (after you set your
menu/Options) to many others programs, Protowall
included. Also this one is easy to use and it’ll not get a lot of bandwidth
while it’s downloading, but it need some PC souce
when it’ll merge the final list, before the final output. I suggest to use this one (downloading) one time every ½ days, just to
have an always updated blacklist and to have your ProtoWall
always working at 100%, for you
