The book contains two sections: the first is a big historical excursus (to help the understanding of the second, specifically technical) about the period between roman times and the end of comunal autonomy (1528): it is a "compendium" with news about origins of Savona and the birth of the Comune, followed by an exposition (synthetic but complete) of events with regard to period of activity of the mint (first half XIV century - beginning of XVI century). The period between 1415 and 1460, examined specifically in numismatics section, is in detail. Genoese and Savonese history are hardly interlaced; this book is a compromise between the ponderous and the thin works about this argument, with several interesting notes about various themes. Section II is dedicated to recent discoveries about Savona-mint, with unknown coins of XV century and a revision of all productive activity of the mint. The new coins examined come from private collections and are to ascribe to period 1435-1461, for their style, pictures, historical, analytical and economic peculiarities. The coins-chemical analysis shows a new portrait of the story of Savona, and can help to revalue the City-position in the Mediterranean economy from XIV until XVI century.
Pictures, town-plans and sketches, a share of graphic project, numismatics section and final revision are by Dario Ferro.
